Do you ever catch yourself in the mirror and do a double-take, wondering who this new “mature” face is staring back at you? I sure do! There are days when I feel like I blinked, and bam! – here I am, a little wiser, a little wrinklier, and trying to remember what a metabolism is. Yep, 60+ has arrived, and with it, a whole new set of…let’s call them "adventures".
Let’s talk real talk, folks. My skin isn’t exactly holding up with the same enthusiasm it used to. Everything feels a little, well, looser! You know that feeling when you take the rubber band off the collard greens and they kind of just relax into themselves? Yep, that’s what my neck seems to be doing these days. And don’t even get me started on shedding those “extra” 10 pounds. Back in the day, I could inhale a bag of potato chips, a chocolate bar, and probably still fit into my high school jeans. Now? I look at a slice of cake, and I swear I gain two pounds just from inhaling the scent. Can anyone relate?
But here’s the thing: getting older has also made me better. Seriously, I’m really starting to appreciate the perks. Sure, the body’s evolving, but so is my mind, my discipline, and my confidence. My “give-a-darn” factor has significantly diminished (and that’s putting it politely!). I’m ticking off goals faster than I ever did in my 20s or 30s, and I’ve learned what actually matters to me. I’ve stopped sweating the small stuff and instead started nurturing the important stuff—things like self-care, resilience, and becoming my authentic self, made better!!!
So, What’s Next?
Aging is inevitable, but thriving? That’s my choice, and I’m embracing it. Yes, my skin is changing, but you know what? So is my spirit. I’m still discovering new passions, setting goals, and, yes, indulging in a bit of extra skincare to keep this fabulous face feeling loved. I may have traded my potato chips for kale chips (okay, who am I kidding… I’m still working on that), but life feels richer, more meaningful, and yes, even funnier than before.
I’m reminding myself—and maybe you too—to embrace every season we’re in. The changes are real, but so are the blessings that come with them.
